| 4 dog sled: | Sleds in the 4 dog class or larger must have a snow hook. |
| Free run, after the Awards: | In order to expedite the events of the day and have better attendance for our awards ceremony we will not be timing the free run. Anyone wishing to run their larger teams, or give their dogs more exercise, can do so following our awards ceremony. If you have a sled, some bungee cords, and a good-sized team, you can help take down the course along the way. Teams that are interested, are encouraged to pick up some of the wooden turn markers and the
small red trail flags on their way around the course. |

Dog Safety:
For the safety of the other teams, you must make sure that your team is under control when passing or being passed. Even if your dog just wants to play, letting him reach out towards another team can frighten the dogs in the other team, or cause a tangle. Dogs that bark and lunge towards other teams on the trail can scare sensitive dogs to the point where they no longer enjoy sledding. Work hard to avoid this situation.
If you have any doubt about your team’s ability to be passed without interfering with the other team, you might choose to:
Stop,
Plant your snowhook.
Go up and hold your dogs to their own side of the trail, or even off the trail if you are not sure how they will behave.
This works with small teams of four dogs or fewer.
Skijorers: holding a dog by the collar rather than the towline will prevent them from reaching out into the trail to check out the other dogs.
What is “Trail”
The overtaking team may call “Trail”, which means you must slow or stop your team to let them pass. Remember, if they caught you they have made up a minute on you already. Your own team will probably run faster if the fast team is running ahead of you.
Leaving Space
If you are passed, you must slow your team down to leave at least 20 feet between yourself and the team ahead, for 2 minutes. After that you can call trail and attempt to re-pass.
The reason for leaving the space is that sometimes teams run slower when they are thinking about strange dogs behind them.
You can pass sooner if the driver ahead gives you permission, or you are in the last half kilometer of the race.
The race is held at the Larose Forest. Click here for more detail.
